If you are one of the millions in the United States who are sleep deprived and drinking a glass of warm milk before bed does not cut it anymore, then you should probably try some foods that might help you fall asleep faster, and stay in bed until it’s time to wake up.
Fish
Most varieties of fish contain high amounts of vitamin B6 and omega 3s, which are believed to help regulate your sleep patterns. They can also improve the quality of your sleep. Any type of fish makes a healthy meal, especially at the end of the day.
Bananas
This fruit, being a good source of potassium and magnesium helps your muscles to relax, which is something your body really needs before you go to bed. Bananas also have an amino acid known as tryptophan, that helps your body to produce serotonin, which in turn aids your body to regulate sleep.
Cereal and milk
These two foods not only have compounds that can help put your body at ease and make you sleepy but if you eat cereal and milk instead of a full meal, your stomach and your whole body will thank you.
Cherry juice
Research has shown that adding about 16 ounces of cherry juice to your diet can considerably improve your sleeping patterns. Cherry juice is also rich in melatonin, which helps your body stay asleep longer.
Walnuts
This flavorful nut is not only rich in fiber but contains a considerable amount of melatonin. Like all nuts, walnuts contain good fats, such as monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, and they are also a good source of the essential fatty acid omega-3. They are also rich in various vitamins and minerals.
Chamomile Tea
This herbal tea is popular around the world and in many cultures for a reason: millions depend on this natural remedy to calm anxiety and treat stomach and other ailments. Of course, when drinking chamomile tea you have to put aside your electronics and try to pair it with a book in a relaxed and low light environment.
